Stay Alert, Scammers Are Targeting Virginians
Fraudsters are sending letters impersonating the U.S. Department of Labor, claiming people have been awarded a grant and then asking for personal information. These letters may look official, but they are not legitimate.
Important Reminder
The U.S. Department of Labor will NEVER send you a grant award out of the blue or ask for your banking information — especially for something you didn’t apply for.
Any unsolicited request for sensitive information is a red flag.
How to Protect Yourself
- Be cautious of unexpected mail claiming you’ve won a grant or benefit.
- Do not share personal or banking information with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
- Verify any communication directly with the appropriate government agency before responding.
Report Suspected Fraud
